Frequently Asked Questions
1. Should I keep my dog or cat regularly bathed and/or groomed?
Yes, because regular bathing and grooming allows you to keep the skin and coat in healthy condition and can alert you to any developing health problems underneath the coat, such as tumors, hot spots, moles, foxtails, wounds, etc.

2. What products should I use on my long-coated breed of dog or cat, such as Lhasa Apso, Afghan, Cocker Spaniel or Persian and Himalayan cats?
You need a conditioning shampoo, a creme rinse and a finishing spray. The conditioning shampoo will keep the coat and skin properly moisturized; the creme rinse makes brushing and combing easier by protecting against dryness and static electricity; the finishing spray helps control shedding and mats and tangles between baths.

3. Why should I use a shampoo formulated specifically for pets on my dog or cat, instead of just using shampoo for people?
Because pet shampoo has the correct pH for dogs and cats and is made to lather well for deep cleansing of all coat types and is made to rinse out of even thick coats quickly and easily. Pet shampoo is also made to leave very little residue on the skin - the heavier conditioning in people shampoo can build up on the pet's skin and cause itching and scratching. People shampoo leaves too much conditioning in the pet's coat and makes the coat harder to dry because of leaving a heavier residue.

4. My dog has bad skin and scratches all the time, but has no fleas. What should I use?
Your dog may have allergies to something or be a breed that is prone to skin problems. You need to bathe your dog in a mild oatmeal shampoo containing herbal ingredients for troubled skin. You would also need an herbal skin care spray for use between baths to ease the itch, soothe the rashes and help heal the problem areas.

5. My pet is always into something in the yard and getting dirty. What can I use frequently to keep my pet clean when I don't have time to give him a full bath?
You can use a rinseless shampoo for quick clean-ups. Rinseless shampoos are applied to the pet's coat, lathered in and toweled out - there is no need to rinse out with water. Follow by brushing or combing the cleaned area. Rinseless shampoos can be used every day.

6. Can I use the same grooming shampoos and conditioners on all my pets?
Not necessarily. Different pets most likely have different grooming needs based upon their breed, coat type, and skin condition. Some have dry skin or oily skin. Some have thick, double coats, some have thin, longer coats, some have short coats. A complete grooming product line will offer you a specific product for each individual pets' needs - this is why taking the time to read the labels is important to your pet's health.

7. What grooming products can I use when my pet is on Program/Advantage/Frontline/Sentinal, etc.?
Some grooming products are compatible with these pharmaceuticals and others are not. All PurePet products are safe for use with Program, Advantage, Frontline and Sentinal because PurePet products are all natural and contain no hazardous ingredients.

8. Why should I use grooming products when my pet has no fleas because he is on Advantage, Frontline and I don't want to wash it off?
Your pet's skin and coat still needs to be kept clean and conditioned regularly to maintain optimum health. PurePet recommends that you always bathe your pet with a compatible natural grooming product before every application of Advantage/Frontline. This will keep you from experiencing skin and coat problems, such as tangling, matting, dirt in the coat, and skin damage caused by lack of regular maintenance.

9. Isn't bathing my pet regularly bad for him?
No, contrary to some beliefs, bathing your pet with top quality pet shampoo and other grooming products designed specifically for your pet's particular needs are necessary for keeping your pet in good health.

10. My white pet's coat looks dingy, dull and lifeless - what can I use to brighten his coat?
You will need a coat brightening shampoo for white coats for his regular bath and a rinseless shampoo for quick cleaning between baths because the lighter colors always show more dirt and discoloration.

11. I feed my pet the best premium food, what grooming products should I use to keep the coat and skin in top condition?

PurePet recommends using a premium, natural, salon-quality shampoos, conditioners, grooming sprays, etc. Since price is not a concern for you, PurePet recommends the best formulations available for your pet's specific needs.

12. I have a dog and a cat, are there any products that are safe for the dog but not safe for the cat? My cat got sick when I washed it with my dog's flea shampoo. Is there a product line that I can safely use on both?
Yes, there are many products that are safe for dogs, but not safe for cats. Products containing sulfa tar, certain pesticide products, heavily perfumed products, products with high levels of alcholol or petroleum distillates, products containing certain propellants, such as aerosol sprays and mousses, tea tree oil and certain other herbal extracts such as pennyroyal and cedar, have all caused problems with cats. Some of these ingredients have also caused problems with dogs as well. PurePet grooming products are specifically formulated to be very safe for dog, cats, puppies and kittens. PurePet does extensive safety research to determine what ingredients go into each product, even down to the type and percentage levels of fragrances. This product formulation eliminates the possibility of any toxic reactions and even greatly minimizes the possibility of any allergic reactions.
